Our Library Building Turns 50!

On March 15, 1976, the brand new Central Islip Public Library building on Hawthorne Avenue was opened to the public!

The library was previously located in a small storefront on Carleton Avenue that opened in 1958. Eventually, a larger space was needed for the library's growing collection of materials, and to be able to provide more programs and other services to our patrons.

Since then, our library has continued to evolve and adapt to the growing needs of our community. We are currently working towards completing our most recent renovation project that includes the addition of energy efficient solar panels, more meeting rooms, a fully updated Teen Space, and much more!  You can keep up with the progress on our Renovation Project page.
